Electrical Facilities Engineer
Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is part of the J.D. Irving Group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company’s primary site is Halifax Shipyard, with three other locations in the Maritime Provinces. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defence.
We are presently recruiting for the position of Electrical Facilities Engineer to be based at the Halifax Shipyard.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 5 years’ Electrical Engineering experience.
Registration as a Professional Engineer is highly preferred.
Understanding of HV and LV electrical distribution.
Considerable experience in the management of multiple engineering projects.
Ability to work independently and/or with multi-disciplined teams of people.
Demonstrated experience in project disciplines such as CPM/PERT, MRP, Gantt charts and multi-level schedules, budgeting, claims processing, progress measurement, expediting and the management of change.
Familiarity with Building Management Software would be an asset.
Eligible for membership in Project Management Institute such as a PMP is desirable.
Strong communication skills and negotiation skills are essential.
Problem solving skills, flexibility, logical analytical thought processes and sound judgment.
Strong presentation skills using Microsoft Power Point.
Experienced in use of AutoCad.
Manage multidiscipline capital projects as assigned by Facilities Engineering Manager.
Lead the development of electrical and instrumentation standards/processes for ISI sites.
Provide technical support to ISI Facility Maintenance Group.
Support Facility Maintenance Group in optimization of electrical preventative maintenance program.
Assist in the development and execution of requirements related to facilities projects, facilities systems that support production, special projects and maintenance projects.
Oversee the work of Contractors to ensure compliance with site polices.
Procure required materials, equipment and labor to complete tasks and assignments.
Provide project updates to Senior Management.
Implement new and modify existing temporary evacuation systems on board vessels undergoing construction or repair.
Participate in the development and manage implementation of 5 year capital plans for electrical systems at all ISI sites.
Review and recommend ways to minimize energy usage so as to operate production facilities in a more cost effective manner.
