Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is part of the J.D. Irving Group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company’s primary site is Halifax Shipyard. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Reporting to the VP – Operations, the Production Quality Specialist is a new position that will play a critical, strategic role for the Operations Team.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Halifax NS, with the potential to work in Dartmouth at the Marine Fabricators or Woodside location.

• Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Shipbuilding industry experience considered an asset
• Experience in data collection, management and analysis
• The ideal candidate will have a strong background in continuous improvement methods including root cause analysis, KPIs, project management, Six Sigma concepts
• Proven ability to lead change management projects
• Proven ability to achieve high performance levels in a complex fast moving environment
• Proven ability to manage through teamwork and influence direct and non-direct reports
• Strong knowledge of MS Office and database management
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Proven ability to motivate and influence and gain commitment
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Key Responsibilities:
• Validate quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production, documenting evidence, determining operational and performance qualification, writing and updating quality processes and procedures
• Oversee the index of production processes
• Promote, develop, and oversee compliance of the quality system
• Assure compliance of customer requirements through development and application of standards, procedures, programs and practices while driving and facilitating continuous improvement
• Write technical and management systems reports pertaining to quality inspections and follow up
• Facilitate with Production and Engineering teams to provide problem resolution
• Analyze production and quality reports to detect and correct problems
• Direct and coordinate the activities of team engagement in quality functions –self-monitoring inspection, analysis and training
• Review and follow up on outstanding quality issues (NCRs, CARs) with a broad team of Production and Engineering personnel to bring to a successful resolution
• Demonstrates strong project management techniques to ensure outstanding actions are closed within a timely manner
• Participate in QA audits and Quality System Procedure reviews
• Design and identify initiatives to address process gaps
• Lead and facilitate improvement projects and workshops, based lean/sig sigma principles
