Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s day-to-day business operations and administrative functions across multiple offices. This strategic leadership role will focus on driving operational efficiency, supporting business growth, and ensuring exceptional client and employee experiences. You will be the operational backbone of the firm. You’ll oversee core business functions and enable the legal team to focus on what they do best — serving clients. You’ll bring structure, strategy, and innovation to our administrative operations and play a critical role in shaping the firm’s next phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and optimize firm operations including HR, finance, IT, facilities, and office administration.
- Partner with others in the senior management group to execute strategic initiatives and firmwide goals.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to improve performance and efficiency.
- Create and manage budgets, review and reduce expenses, financial reporting, and resource allocation in collaboration with the finance team.
- Ensure compliance with legal industry regulations, professional standards, and risk management protocols.
- Lead and mentor administrative and support teams across multiple locations.
- Drive initiatives that enhance client service, operational excellence, and firm culture.
- Support recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives.
- Evaluate and implement technology solutions that improve operational workflows and client service delivery.
- Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring seamless support across all offices.
- Collaborate with leadership on firmwide strategy and execution.
- Build efficient processes across HR, IT, finance, marketing, facilities, and administration.
- Champion a positive and performance-driven firm culture.
- Drive operational improvements and technology adoption to enhance efficiency.
- Lead and mentor a team of administrative professionals.
- Oversee financial performance, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Ensure compliance with legal industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a key partner in business planning, growth strategy, and client service delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field (MBA or JD considered an asset).
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in professional services, ideally in legal, accounting, or consulting.
- Demonstrated success in multi-site operations leadership.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build and scale efficient operational processes.
- Experience in change management and strategic planning.
