Controller

Our client is seeking a Controller to join their manufacturing operations division. This role is responsible for providing strong financial leadership to support operational performance, cost control, and strategic decision-making across the division.
The successful candidate will work closely with operations, senior leadership, and corporate finance to ensure accurate financial reporting, sound internal controls, and continuous improvement of financial processes within a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the division. Deliver accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards. Maintain strong internal controls and compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
- Audit & Advisory: Coordinate audit requirements and serve as a key contact for internal and external auditors. Partner with operational leadership as a trusted finance advisor.
- Operational Analysis: Provide clear, actionable analysis and insights to support operational performance and strategic initiatives. Translate complex financial results into meaningful information for non-finance stakeholders.
- Finance Transformation: Champion automation, data analytics, and emerging AI capabilities within finance. Continuously improve and standardize processes to reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and enhance data quality. Collaborate with corporate finance and technology teams on system enhancements and finance transformation initiatives.
- Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop finance team members; support succession planning and talent development. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Education & Credentials: CPA designation (CPA, CA / CPA, CMA / CPA, CGA) required.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in manufacturing, production, or industrial operations.
- Technical Skills: Strong background in cost accounting and financial analysis. Experience supporting plant, facility, or mill operations is a strong asset. Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems.
- Core Competencies: Proven leadership and people-management skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, operationally focused environment.
